Blockstream CEO and Hashcash inventor named in Epstein investment emails
Adam Back, CEO and co-founder of Blockstream, appears in recently released Epstein Files documents related to a 2014 cryptocurrency investment. Epstein invested approximately $500,000 in Blockstream's seed round through a fund associated with MIT Media Lab director Joi Ito. Email records suggest Back and Blockstream co-founder Austin Hill were invited to meet Epstein in the U.S. Virgin Islands in April 2014, though it remains unclear whether the visit occurred. Back has publicly stated that Blockstream severed financial ties with Epstein's fund within months due to conflict-of-interest concerns, and that the company has no direct or indirect financial connection to Epstein or his estate. Multiple sources explicitly note that the appearance of names in released documents does not indicate wrongdoing, and neither Back nor Blockstream have been linked to any wrongdoing related to Epstein.
