USVI Governor who fired AG after JPMorgan Epstein lawsuit
Albert Bryan Jr., the governor of the US Virgin Islands since 2019, engaged in communications with Jeffrey Epstein in the months before Epstein's July 2019 arrest. Text messages from May 2019 show Epstein sought and received assistance from Bryan regarding a legal dispute over unauthorized construction on his private islands. Bryan assured Epstein he would intervene with territorial officials, telling him 'We got u.' After taking office in 2019, Bryan's administration faced scrutiny over its handling of Epstein-related litigation. According to an FBI memorandum released in January 2026, former Attorney General Denise George alleged that Bryan pressured her within two weeks of her appointment regarding Epstein's sex offender status and his request for a travel reporting waiver. Bryan terminated George on December 31, 2022, four days after she filed a lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase over Epstein's sex-trafficking operation. Bryan subsequently appointed her successor to a lifetime judgeship after a settlement agreement was executed, and his next Attorney General resigned at his 'specific request.' No criminal charges, arrests, or convictions have been documented against Bryan in relation to these matters.
