Case Notes

Early Bitcoin developer contacted directly by Epstein in 2011

INTELLIGENCE SUMMARY

Amir Taaki is an influential early Bitcoin Core contributor who was contacted by Jeffrey Epstein in 2011 through intermediary Jason Calacanis. Epstein expressed interest in meeting with Taaki and his co-founder Donald Norman to discuss Bitcoin. Taaki arranged a meeting, but after Norman met Epstein and researched his background and allegations, both decided to cut off all communications. Taaki has publicly stated on February 2, 2026 that he had no wrongdoing and made the appropriate decision to cease engagement upon learning about Epstein's past. Taaki is not accused of any criminal activity, nor is he alleged to be a victim of Epstein. His inclusion in the released Epstein files reflects only that Epstein attempted to contact him—a contact Taaki promptly rejected.
