Danish businessman; owned Great St. James island; Epstein used fraud to circumvent his refusal to sell
Christian Kjaer was the owner of Great Saint James Island in the US Virgin Islands. Jeffrey Epstein fraudulently acquired the island from Kjaer in 2016 by using the name of Emirati businessman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem as the beneficial owner in a shell company transaction. Kjaer did not want to sell to Epstein due to his sex offense convictions, but the sale proceeded through deception. Kjaer and his wife Susan Astani reportedly felt swindled by the transaction and had warning signs about Epstein's criminal background. Kjaer is a witness to and victim of Epstein's fraud scheme, not a participant in any alleged criminal activity.
