Case Notes

Former Goldman Sachs CEO listed in Epstein's black book

INTELLIGENCE SUMMARY

Lloyd Blankfein is the former CEO of Goldman Sachs. His name surfaced in connection with the Epstein case following the DOJ's large-scale release of Epstein files in early 2026. According to reporting tied to Blankfein's memoir "Streetwise: Getting to and Through Goldman Sachs" (published late February 2026), the Epstein files contained five internal memos from Epstein's organization noting attempts to contact Blankfein and invite him to dinners. Each attempt was rebuffed, with Blankfein reportedly being unavailable or out of town. The fifth memo reportedly asked internally whether Epstein's team should continue pursuing contact with Blankfein or abandon the effort. Blankfein has publicly and explicitly stated: "I did not know who Epstein was." He characterized his office's approach as neither directly refusing nor accepting invitations from people he did not know. Blankfein was interviewed on March 1, 2026, by Bloomberg in connection with his memoir, where he addressed the Epstein topic directly. He also commented on the resignation of Goldman Sachs chief legal officer Kathy Ruemmler, who stepped down in February 2026 after the Epstein files revealed she had a close personal and professional relationship with Epstein. Separately, Blankfein serves as chair of the Barnard College Board of Trustees. In that capacity, he co-announced in late February 2026 that an independent review of the Epstein files had found no current Barnard representatives engaged in wrongdoing. There is no evidence Blankfein ever met Epstein, attended any of his events, or had any financial or personal dealings with him. He has not been named as a subject of any criminal investigation, civil suit, or congressional inquiry in connection with Epstein. His connection to the Epstein files is limited to Epstein's one-sided and unsuccessful attempts to arrange contact.
