Slovak national security adviser and ex-UN GA president; resigned over Epstein texts
Miroslav Lajčák, Slovakia's former foreign minister and national security adviser to Prime Minister Robert Fico, resigned from his advisory position on January 31, 2026, following the release of the Epstein Files by the US Department of Justice. Documents revealed extensive contact between Lajčák and Jeffrey Epstein from 2017 to 2019, including at least 25 personal meetings and inappropriate text messages exchanged while Lajčák held senior diplomatic positions, including UN General Assembly president. The messages contained jokes about women and inappropriate banter. Lajčák acknowledged showing poor judgment and inappropriate communication, stating he felt like 'a fool' upon reviewing the messages, though he denied any wrongdoing and stated the communications were foolish male banter rather than evidence of criminal conduct. He resigned voluntarily to avoid political damage to Prime Minister Fico.
Miroslav Lajcak resigned as Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's national security adviser after documents linking him to Jeffrey Epstein were released, though he was not accused of wrongdoing.
