Shirley V. Skipper-Scott served as the warden (or acting warden/associate warden) of the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in New York City, the federal jail where Jeffrey Epstein was held at the time of his death on August 10, 2019. She earned approximately $127,218 annually and had previously worked at Bureau of Prisons facilities in Puerto Rico, Mississippi, Texas, and Florida before being assigned to MCC in 2017. Internal emails show she was directly involved in day-to-day custody management decisions for Epstein, including communications about his placement on suicide watch, cell transfers, meal arrangements, and legal conference scheduling. Following Epstein's apparent suicide, Attorney General William Barr directed the Bureau of Prisons to temporarily reassign Skipper-Scott to the Bureau's Northeast Regional Office, pending the outcome of FBI and Office of Inspector General investigations into the circumstances of Epstein's death. Her reassignment was a direct administrative consequence of Epstein dying in custody on her watch. No criminal charges against her have been identified in connection with this matter.
