Former Bear Stearns chairman who hired Epstein; deceased
Alan 'Ace' Greenberg was the CEO of Bear Stearns who hired Jeffrey Epstein as an assistant floor trader in 1976 after being impressed by Epstein's mathematical knowledge at a parent-teacher conference at the Dalton School. Greenberg mentored Epstein, facilitating his rapid advancement and access to wealthy clients while Epstein gained intimate knowledge of U.S. tax codes and offshore banking. Greenberg and Epstein remained close associates; Epstein was a client of Bear Stearns until the firm's collapse in 2008, and Greenberg contributed to Epstein's birthday book in 2003. While Greenberg's hiring and mentorship of Epstein provided critical professional advancement that enabled Epstein's later financial operations, there is no evidence of criminal charges, convictions, or direct involvement in Epstein's sex trafficking activities. Greenberg died in July 2014.
