AI pioneer named in Giuffre court filings; deceased
Marvin Minsky, the MIT artificial intelligence pioneer, died on January 24, 2016, at age 88 from a cerebral hemorrhage — years before court documents naming him were publicly unsealed. Virginia Giuffre alleged in a 2016 sworn deposition in the Giuffre v. Maxwell civil case that Ghislaine Maxwell directed her to have sexual contact with Minsky while she was underage (approximately 17 years old), with the alleged encounter occurring on Epstein's private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Minsky was part of Epstein's academic social circle; Epstein's foundation also sponsored a 2012 academic conference Minsky organized. The documents containing these allegations were first partially unsealed in August 2019 and more fully unsealed in January 2024. Multiple news sources explicitly confirm that 'none of the men named in the deposition have been charged with a crime or even sued in civil court in connection with the Epstein case.' Because Minsky predeceased the public release of these allegations, he never publicly responded to them and no legal proceedings of any kind were initiated or possible against him.
